Amherst Bowdoin The 'Cac

Two Outstanding Members of The ‘Cac Class of 2016

Business Insider recently ran a piece featuring “The Most Impressive Kids Graduating from High School This Year.” Perhaps unsurprisingly, two of them are CACward bound.

Sharline Dominguez (Brooklyn College Academy, Brooklyn, NY) is headed to the ‘Herst in Fall 2012. An impressive writer, Dominguez won the Gold Key for Writing Portfolio in the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards this year. In an email to Business Insider, Dominguez commented, “Above all, I value learning and want to pursue a career in education, public relations or law because I am passionate about strengthening communities, social awareness, and enjoy the intimacy of teaching and learning about others.”

Samantha Garvey (Brentwood High School, Long Island, NY) was named a semi-finalist in the Intel Science Talent Search for her research on phenotypic plasticity in Long Island mussels. While Garvey’s success in the prestigious science competition speaks for itself, she conducted the study whilst her family was living in a homeless shelter. Since then, people like President Obama and Ellen Degeneres have praised Garvey for overcoming her situation with poise and determination. While Garvey’s family now lives in subsidized housing, she will be making Bowdoin College her home for the next four years.

To both of these amazing young women and any other members of the class of 2016 reading this: Welcome to the ‘Cac!
