Very Pinteresting

oooh right

Co- Founder of Pinterest, Evan Sharp, came to speak at my work yesterday. Naturally, everyone in the audience was procrastinating on Pinterest, but this time it was ok, it was research. He started Pinterest as a place to organize his drawings and inspirational pictures (he was an architect), and the company grew from 2 users to 4 million daily unique visitors (branddignity.com) in just a few short months. It is the single quickest growing company in the history of the world. Evan said he thought it grew so quickly because people “went home for the holidays [2011] and told friends about it” because the website did most of its growing in December 2011 and January 2012. I mean, that’s how I found out about it. Because it’s so new, the company doesn’t make any money yet, which is typical for a start-up internet company like Pinterest, but it means they have 50 Ikea desks crammed into a small office in the Silicon Valley. Even stressed the importance of design in the Pinterest philosophy, as a former architect, Evan understands the importance of keeping the site aesthetically pleasing and not crowded with advertisements.
