Summer Serenity

One of the perks of living alone and in the middle of bumfuck nowhere is I get my share of rather beautiful settings. It’s nice – even though we’re away from our fairly picturesque campuses, staying out in the woods or on a sparsely populated lake lends itself to the sounds of animals, a clearer view of the stars and a fuller appreciation for what Mother Earth has granted us (or what she has fought to maintain as we plant our giant human footprints on her face).  For those who may be hanging in the city this summer and yearn for a little pretty (and maybe some quiet), here’s a little taste of some of New England’s peaceful places.

Vermont green.

New Hampshire’s lovely lakes (and inhabitants).

These are actually on Amherst’s campus: the nearby bikepath…

…and the adjacent bird sanctuary.

Northern New Hampshire’s White Mountains (though they are quite green in the summertime!)

Local backwoods.

Country skies.
