‘Cacappella

Things I feel I should admit:

I sing all-female collegiate a cappella.

Today, I walked around freshman pre-orientation and literally handed out group business cards to interested girls.

For two years I have stood at the fall activities fair and told every single person who walked by my table that they should try out (even if they don’t think they can sing).

I have listened for girls singing along to the music at parties and (over)eagerly encouraged them to “TOTALLY AUDITION NEXT SEMESTER!!!”

My group sang at a competitive a cappella festival this past year where we all wore bright matching outfits. We went shopping for them as a group. The theme was “colorblocking” or, more accurately, “preschool teacher.”

My group also  has a GroupMe where we share any and all news, information, thoughts, and gossip. Today, a link to this video came through the wire:

Pitch Perfect is set to come out October 5th, and I’m pretty sure that this trailer came out today. I’m also remarkably surprised that no one tapped into this market before now. It’s like Bring It On but…less…athletic.

I almost wish it didn’t hit as close to home as it does, and I feel like those of you also involved in ‘Cacappella know what I mean. Do we have sing-offs in the off-campus BYOB restaurant? Yes. Do we have rivalries and secret traditions and over-planning  and late-night rehearsals? Yes. Do we over-think outfits and land on themes like “subdued patriotic” and “warm autumnal but no black”? Yes. After watching the trailer did I listen to my group’s live CD on repeat for an hour? Highly possible.

I’m really hoping this movie is good in the “I love watching TLC marathons and eating too many carbs” definition of good. Bad good. Really really really bad good.

Regardless, I’m totally pumped Adam is making an appearance. (And, let’s be honest, every group has that kid…)
