Conn’s Miss CT Contender Starts Online Cat Pageant
The Hartford Courant “Pageant creator Marisa Barnard, who as Miss Naugatuck Valley will compete for the Miss Connecticut title late this month, has never been able to get her own cats, Diamond and Marcello, to tolerate more than a little crown.
‘I wish I could dress them up for the holidays,’ says Barnard. ‘But … well … they’re cats. It doesn’t work out that well.’ …
The cat pageant is a virtual, not live event, held entirely online. When planning began, 19-year-old Barnard had never heard the warning, ‘It would be like herding cats,’ yet she instantly got the meaning: Cats tend to go their own way. If this pageant takes off, however, and becomes an annual event, she wouldn’t rule out a live version sometime down the road.
Barnard will be a junior this fall at Connecticut College in New London, where the Miss Connecticut pageant will take place June 28-30 at the Garde Arts Center. It costs $10 to enter Barnard’s Miss/Mr. ConnectiCAT pageant, with the deadline for entries just extended to June 20.”
Proceeds from the pageant will go to Children’s Miracle Network.
I don’t have $10 right now, so I am just going to post my entry online and hope that Marisa reads The ‘Cac.
Dear Marisa,
This is my cat Target. She is named Target because we found her in the Target parking lot. When we took her to get spayed she was already spayed so it’s possible that we stole her. She has an extra toe on her front paws, possibly signifying royal descent. She’s been catnip free for two months now.
