Bates, Bowdoin Among Campus Pride’s 2012 LGBT-Friendly List for College Athletes
Bowdoin and Bates are the only NESCAC schools on Campus Pride’s “Out to Play” list that is designed to “address anti-LGBT slurs, bias and conduct in college sports”. Campus Pride and Compete Magazine published the results of this national project for the first-ever! LGBT-Friendly Top 10 in College Athletics.
The “Out to Play Project” reviewed LGBT-inclusion efforts, practices, and policy implementation. It is the first type of assessment of its kind. According to CampusPride.org, “In Fall 2012, the organization will release the most comprehensive national collegiate research report sharing the experiences of nearly 500 self-identified LGBT athletes and providing necessary resources for further progress on LGBT issues in college athletics.”
The schools included on the list are: Bates College, Bowdoin College, Bucknell University, Columbia University, Indiana University, Ithaca College, Kennesaw State University, New York University, Stanford University and Whitman College. These are listed alphabetically.
